Tips on preventing GLOBAL WARMING. Let us unite as one:D
In Your Home 1. Run your dishwasher only when it's full. 2. Wash your laundry in warm or cold water, never hot. 3. Move your thermostat down two degrees in winter and up two degrees in summer. 4. If your water heater is over five years old, wrap it in an insulating jacket. 5. Clean and replace air conditioning filters to reduce energy consumption up to 5%. 6. Replace standard light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. 7. Turn off lights and appliances when they aren't being used. Also, unplug cell phone chargers and other electronics from the wall (even when not in use!) — anything plugged into the wall uses energy! 8. Caulk and weather strip around doors and windows. 9. Install low-flow shower heads in order to use less hot water. 10. Take shorter showers. 11. Insulate walls and ceilings. 12. Buy windows, appliances, and homes with the Energy Star label. 13. Buy minimally packaged goods, and recycle where possible. 14. Choose a utility company that does not produce energy fom pollutants like fossil fuels. 15. Get a home energy audit. 16. Paint your home a light color if you live in a warm climate, or a dark color if you live in a cold climate. Also, use latex paint rather than oil for less harmful fumes. 17. Defrost your freezer — it won't work as hard. 18. Regularly clean all heating ducts. 19. Use motion detector lights outside your home. 20. Plant trees outside your home to provide shade and carbon storage. 21. Use a composting lawnmower or a push mower.
On the Road 1. Encourage your local government to improve streetlights with energy-efficient bulbs. 2. Keep your car tuned up and your tires properly inflated. 3. Carpool whenever possible. 4. Telecommute, if possible. 5. Use mass transit, or walk! 6. Buy a fuel-efficient car (one that gets at least 30 miles per gallon), or a hybrid model. 7. Observe the speed limit. 8. Remove excess weight from your vehicle. 9. Avoid excessive idling. 10. Use cruise control and overdrive gears.
